BROWSING ABOUT
MARCH 2004
It's been about a year now since we looked through the notebook to see just what is here. This month we'll check thru it again to see what goodies have been added. I won't go into the history of Bits of Blue and Gray, you can read that at February 2003. Beside the pages listed below, be sure to check the other areas in the Notebook.
In August of 2003, the old Genealogy Forum, a partner with AOL closed its doors. BUT... folks who are members of AOL may find the NEW Genealogy Community (I host there now) at Keyword: Parenting Chats > Genealogy. You can now spend two evenings around the Fireside, Thursday 11 PM ET and 10 PM ET on Friday nights in the Ancestral Digs room. AOLers, stop by for some good stories and interaction with others with the same interest. For other internet providers, you may visit the Blue and Gray chat room at http://www.bhocutt.com Thursday nights at 9 PM ET. You need to register, but it's painless. Ok, back to the notebook.
The DE Roster of Union Soldiers is COMPLETE as far as the
names listed in the book are concerned. I have, however, been trying to add other
information about the soldiers. You readers have been very gracious in
sharing information about your ancestors and I thank you. If you don't see
something there that you've sent, please email me again, bitsobluengray@aol.com
as I had a "glitch" and lost a lot of my email. :(
and PLEASE put something in the subject line so I know it's for the website. If you have a
picture of your ancestor, the cemetery he's buried in, a picture of his
tombstone, or any other information you'd like to share. Again, I thank
you ALL for sharing this most precious information. I have another source with names of soldiers and I hope to be able to add those soon.
For
black soldiers from Delaware, be sure to visit:

Chronicles of the Great Rebellion a book written by Rev. Allen M. Scott, D. D. in about 1864, published by C. F. Vent & Co, of Cincinnati is also now COMPLETE!! This is an extremely interesting format for a book written about the Civil War. It is written in "Chapter and Verse" just as the Bible was written. I think you'll find it good reading.
Friends' Sites is pretty self-explanatory. There is a variety of sites.. some strictly Civil War, and the newest one listed is, ShoeString Genealogy. It gives you ways to locate your ancestors. I think you'll like it. Be sure, also, to check out the others listed on the "Friends" page.
A couple of letters have been added to the letters page. Check out the poems and songs too. If you have a favorite Civil War song, let me know and we'll add it. Ted Fisher compiled the list of Civil War Related U.S. Stamps 1866 - 1970 has been added to the Miscellaneous section. Don't forget to check out the From Our Readers section, the newest addition there are four pages of the "Confederate Campaigns of the Southwest" also by Ted Fisher. No new Civil War Ghost Stories have been added, but if you have your own story you'd like to share, please email me.
I hope you've enjoyed browsing through our notebook and I hope you've found something of interest to you. If you have a Civil War story, letters, poems, songs, ghost stories, etc. you would like to share, please don't hesitate to write. bitsobluengray@aol.com.
