The following information was provided by great-great niece C. Criswell, OH
Denny Mattiford (listed as Denny Mattaford on the list): buried: Wakeman Village Cemetery, Wakeman Twp. Huron County, OH (Source: Huron Co., OH Cemetery Inscriptions, p. 887, which is available at the Ohio Historical Society in Columbus) There is a GAR marker on his grave.
Private Denney Mattiford moved to Ohio not long after the Civil War. He is listed on the 1880 U.S. Census as living in Huron Co., Ohio in 1880, and he remained there the rest of his life. According to his Ohio Death Certificate, he died of chronic nephritis on April 16, 1920. The same document states that he was born on June 10, 1842 in Smyrna, Delaware. He is listed in 1850 and 1860 on the U. S. Census as being in Duck Creek Hundred, near Smyrna, DE. He married Rebecca Scotten, who was also fro Duck Creek Hundred.
I was interested to see that another of the Company G privates was James H. Scotten, who died of wounds. Perhaps he was related to Rebecca???
